Karen Schultz JD
President & CEO

Karen Schultz founded II Key Planning Group, Inc. after successfully working in a private elder law practice with her husband, Tim Schultz, for the past three years. With their law firm, Schultz & Schultz, P.C., Karen and Tim Schultz have helped hundreds of families with Medicaid planning, developing effective, streamlined systems for handling their multiplying client base.

Prior to private practice, Karen Schultz was employed as Staff Attorney at Parkland Health & Hospital System for 7 ½ years, and prior to that with a large Dallas law firm in the litigation section for four years. Karen’s focus at Parkland was on health care law as she worked with various health care providers, including social workers, physicians, nurses, clinicians, and administration. She served on Parkland’s Institutional Ethics Committee as well as the hospital’s Compliance Committee. Karen obtained her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1989 and earned a B.A. with honors from Rice University in 1986.

Karen and Tim Schultz’s article entitled “Advance Directives – A Primer” was published in the December, 2000 edition of the Texas Bar Journal. Karen also published an article entitled “The Texas Hospital Lien Law – Ten Basic Things to Know,” in the May, 1998 edition of the Texas Bar Journal. She was an Adjunct Professor training law students from SMU and Baylor University School of Law in the health law specialty.
